History will show that the term safari, from the Arabic word safar meaning journey was used to describe all journeys into Africa and beyond. To begin with safaris were all mobile camping. Intrepid explorers would go off for months at a time setting up various camps along the way, pitching a tent for a few nights to explore the area and then move on as they desired. Very few companies offer mobile safaris nowadays but those that do still understand what a real journey is and therefore can interpret that across to their guest.
